The Festivals En Mouvement (FEM) project, spearheaded by R2D2, a collective of regional festivals' sustainable development support networks, aims to reduce the environmental footprint associated with audience and crew travel. 50 festivals nationwide are involved in this project, working together to find greener transport alternatives.
Did you know that 70% of a festival's carbon footprint is caused by audience travel? That's why FEM has decided to get to grips with the subject! This research-action project, drawn up and launched in 2023, is divided into 3 phases:
- A national survey of audience and team mobility practices conducted by the Sociotopie research firm (2023).
- Two seasons of experimentation at festivals around carpooling, cycling, a national communication campaign on sustainable mobility at festivals, and the organization of regional consultations combining Culture and Mobility (2024 and 2025).
- A phase to capitalize on results and best practices (2025 - early 2026).
This time of exchange will enable members of the collective to present the project in greater detail, and festivals that have taken part in the collective approach to give feedback on this first year of experimentation, and to explain the prospects for the FEM project in the years to come.
