How can Scènes de Musiques Actuelles (SMAC) adapt and enhance their support schemes to address the specific needs of rap artists, both amateur and professional, in a constantly evolving sector?
Within the French musical landscape, Scènes de Musiques Actuelles (SMAC) play a central role as structures dedicated to supporting, showcasing, and guiding artists from all musical backgrounds. These venues, certified by the Ministry of Culture, are tasked with promoting emerging talent, creation, and professionalization by providing spaces for expression and resources tailored to the development of artistic projects.
At the initiative of the DGCA and in partnership with the SMAC L'Astrolabe (Orléans), a three-day Hackathon was held last June, bringing together professionals from music venues, managers, representatives of music networks, and artists to collectively explore and imagine possible evolutions, in line with practices that are constantly evolving. This gathering generated a series of working proposals, tools, and methodologies designed to be shared across the SMAC network and with all stakeholders involved in supporting contemporary music practices.
This roundtable will provide an opportunity to present the outcomes of those three days of work and to continue the discussion.
