As its name suggests, Villes des Musiques du Monde is a structure that develops a cultural and artistic project based on the promotion, dissemination and transmission of world music and culture.
The project covers the whole of Seine-Saint-Denis and Greater Paris, and is firmly anchored in Aubervilliers, its birthplace and now home base, with the creation of the Point Fort d'Aubervilliers, a Scène d'intérêt national musiques et danses du monde.
The FAMDT is joining forces with the Villes des Musiques du Monde festival to present a showcase devoted to contemporary trad'n'folk music: an effervescent musical scene that signals the revival of traditional music and reminds us that tradition only exists as a permanent invention. This program highlights and supports artists from the oral tradition of folk music, promoting their creations, their audacity, their artistic cross-fertilization, the diversity of the currents they cross, and the inventiveness of new sonic geographies.For many years now, Villes des Musiques du Monde and the FAMDT have been working together to develop the "Musiques d'ICI" concept, which highlights creations from the diasporas present in the region (including the Prix des Musiques d'ICI, on stage on Wednesday October 15 as part of MaMA music & convention), as well as the way in which Breton, Auvergne, Provençal and Corsican repertoires take root and hybridize. The name "Musiques d'ICI" expresses this double movement and all the sonic geographies of France.
