Originally from Diyarbekir, RUSAN FILIZTEK learned the saz with his father before attending renowned music schools such as those in Sakarya and Marmara University. For several years, he traveled throughout the Middle East to deepen his knowledge of Kurdish, Turkish, Greek, and Armenian/Aramaic music and song.
When speaking of the songs and melodies of Anatolia and Mesopotamia, RUSAN FILIZTEK likes to use the ancient names of these regions – cradles of civilization that forged so many cultures and musical forms, of which today’s peoples are only the heirs.
RUSAN FILIZTEK is a Kurd from Diyarbakir, but that alone does not define him as an artist. For many years, he has built precious friendships with Turkish, Armenian, and Greek musicians, which have enriched his repertoire.
His latest album, « Exils », displays this weaving of friendships and complicity that goes beyond the contours of what we usually call a group.
