KILLING

KILLING

Killer often felt apart. Not that he didn't belong, no, he was always comfortable in the margins. With his head in the clouds, his mind always focused on something bigger than himself, he was a more creative child than the norm and one that some looked at with curiosity. Even though he came from Boulogne-Billancourt, a stronghold of French Rap renowned for the harshness of his lyrics and his technical demonstrations, Tuerie never blended into this legacy. Because there wasn't just rap in his headphones. Rock fusion, alternative music and Gospel music punctuate his daily life as much as the legends of his city, including Booba or Salif. And when he started making music at the age of thirteen, he understood that he was as much influenced by Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park as by Jacques Brel or Lauryn Hill. Free and borderless. After years of touring local stages with a Live Band, then a meeting with rappers Luidji, Beeby and Dinos with whom he formed a short-lived group, Tuerie finally let Rap occupy the supporting roles. He worked in the social sector, before the adventure came to an abrupt end in 2019. The music isn't paying off yet, and with a baby on the way, her artistic dreams can't afford to fail. Impossible. Tempted to return to paid work, Tuerie is confronted with his fate by his partner at the time: "Who will you be to tell your son 'don't give up' if you yourself have given up what makes you vibrate?" she asks him. Rap became an obvious choice again, and with the help of his label Foufoune Palace, Tuerie began working on Bleu Gospel (2021), an album he had been thinking about since he was little. Because he has demons to ward off and memories to dig up. Conceived alongside producer Keydi and director and photographer Steven Norel, Bleu Gospel was unveiled in the middle of lockdown and caused a small earthquake. By telling his personal story and part of his family's, Tuerie realizes that he has never touched so many people as he has by being introspective. The magic of paradoxes? His next project 'Papillon Monarque' will therefore be a new gateway to an artist in constant evolution. A man who decidedly never does anything like the others.
