Jean-Philippe THIELLAY has been Chairman of the Centre national de la musique since its creation on January 1, 2020. He previously held the position of Deputy General Director of the Opéra national de Paris (2014-2019). A member of the Conseil d'Etat, where he spent part of his career following his studies at Sciences-Po and ENA, Jean-Philippe Thiellay has also held various positions in ministerial cabinets and, abroad, in embassies. Founder and vice-president of the Terra Nova think tank, he was associate professor of law at the University of Lille II and has published several legal works. In the field of music, he was a music critic for several years and is a regular contributor to the France Musique program La tribune des critiques. He is the author of three biographical essays on Rossini, Bellini and Meyerbeer, published by Editions Actes Sud. In November 2021, Les Belles lettres published an essay on the future of lyric art (L'opéra, s'il vous plaît. Plaidoyer pour l'art lyrique).
