Jean-Philippe THIELLAY has been the President of the Centre national de la musique since its creation on 1 January 2020. He previously served as Deputy General Director of the Paris Opera (2014-2019). A member of the Council of State, where he spent part of his career after his studies at Sciences-Po and the ENA, Jean-Philippe Thiellay has also held various positions in ministerial offices and, abroad, in embassies. Founder and vice-president of the think tank Terra Nova, he was an associate professor of law at the University of Lille II and has published several legal books. In the field of music, he was a music critic for several years and regularly participates in the program La tribune des critiques on France Musique. He is the author of three biographical essays on Rossini, Bellini and Meyerbeer, published by Editions Actes Sud. In November 2021, he published an essay at Editions Les Belles lettres that raises the question of the future of opera (L'opéra, s'il vous pla. A Plea for Opera).
