Alice Guerlot-Kourouklis is a musician, sound artist and composer based in France. With a degree in sociology, she first worked as a musician (accordion and piano) before devoting herself to composition and sound art. Composition, which emerged from her instrumental practices (self-taught, unorthodox and non-virtuoso use of musical instruments, working with sound as a material to be sculpted, hijacking and modifying the timbre of the instrument with the use of effects pedals and real-time sound processing, playing on the ambiguity of natural sound/synthetic sound) is approached as an empirical process. Through encounters with other artistic fields, she has freely navigated between several musical aesthetics, exploring the concept of translation and the notion of conversation/meeting between media: field recording, putting interviews on the air, abstraction of sound in encounters with image or dance, the search for singularity through meticulous work on textures as a privileged mode of musical expression for films.
