Can we trust carbon indicators?

MaMA Debate

Listen live and replay

For several months now, networks, unions and federations in the music world have been pulling out all the stops when it comes to ecological issues. Often advised by transition experts and informed by (digital) indicators, these organizations have pledged to reduce their carbon footprint, especially when it comes to touring. For composer and sociologist François Ribac, this is of course a necessary and welcome move, but it's not certain that it will actually help to redirect musical activities. In his view, just as police informers have never succeeded in eliminating the underworld, carbon informers will probably fail to limit global warming.
