Chilla

ARTIST
FR

Chilla's musical journey, made up of numerous cycles and evolutions, is a veritable quest. A path strewn with stages, where each fork in the road finds its meaning and its necessity. While Chilla, the singer, pushed back the boundaries of genres, exploring rap, r&b and French chanson, Maréva, as she is known, learned to live and discovered herself as a woman.

Defining Chilla has never been easy. Literally refusing to be pigeonholed, even by those likely to accelerate her rise to fame, the artist has never stopped reinventing herself. Spontaneous, her records have always been, from M?N to EGO, not forgetting the KARMA EP. Born of an impulse, an emotion or a spark, their tracks captured the essence of a moment in life, a rant or a standpoint. Reflection came later, when it was time to design the tracklist. For EGO, a second opus conceived in pain, nearly a hundred tracks were recorded over the space of three years, and only 18 were retained. It was a trying process for the Franco-Malagasy singer, always on the lookout for the perfect blend, but never fully satisfied.

Following the release of 333, her third album released in September 2024, Chilla has radically changed her approach. At the end of her latest tour, the rapper-singer finally took the time to breathe, taking the first break of her career in her native Madagascar. It was a life-saving break that allowed her to take stock of her life and the trials and tribulations that have marked it.

Symbolizing letting go, 333 is an album of breakups. In love on the one hand, as Maréva was recovering from a separation. But also methodical. Barely 5 months after her last date, Chilla returned to the studio out of a simple desire to create, and spontaneously laid LA, the cornerstone and inaugural single of what was to take the form of a third full-length. This two-stage track, crescendoing from despair to lightness, offered her new perspectives: those of a renewal. In just a few months, she laid down the rest of the opus, immortalizing her mood of the moment, while synthesizing her mixed influences. Like a stroll under a sunset, carried by ugly-back and vintage sounds, sometimes 2-step, electro or calmer, it's an authentic conversation that Chilla offers us.
conversation that Chilla offers us, addressing each phase of her reconstruction: anger, mourning, acceptance, then healing. With Fleetzy, the Rabbits, Cosmo, NKF and Neo Maestro at the helm, the twelve tracks on this album strike the perfect balance between density of purpose and lightness of aesthetic, while Disiz and Kobo add their own unique touch to this highly personal album (on Petit Cœur and
J'attends trop de toi). Absent from the radar since 2022, Chilla marked her return on September 20, 2024 with her album "333".
