Gianmarco Del Re is an Anglo-Italian journalist who has been reporting on the large-scale Russian invasion since it began, through the voices of Ukrainian artists for the experimental music website A Closer Listen. In parallel, he hosts a monthly podcast of the same name on UK radio station Resonance FM.
In 2023, Gianmarco compiled the 170 interviews he conducted during the first year of the invasion into "Ukrainian Field Notes", a 567-page, fully illustrated book that reveals the human face of war through the prism of sound and music.
The book was released alongside a fund-raising compilation on Odesa's label ??????? | system featuring 89 pieces of music all made after the invasion by the musicians interviewed.
In May 2024, Gianmarco organized presentations of the book "Ukrainian Field Notes" in Kyiv and Lviv, where he finally had the chance to meet the musicians he interviewed in person.
