Sandra Boertien has first-hand experience of (sudden) deafness and hearing impairment. She is an investigator and speaker in the field of accessibility and inclusion for deaf and hard-of-hearing people. She has also organized events such as World Deaf Day and the International Congress on Sudden and Delayed Deafness. Among other projects of the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, as well as organizations such as HandicapNL and Possibilize, she works actively to make festivals, as well as the arts and culture sector, more accessible.
