Introduced to rap in the early 90s, Julien Cholewa tried his hand at several hip-hop arts, including rapping, beatmaking, tagging and DJing, while collecting vinyl records, mixtapes and K7 copies of the radio shows of the time. Studying Sociology and Anthropology, he began researching issues relating to hip-hop, popular cultures and their normalization in 2002. Between 2003 and 2005, he carried out a major study into the way hip-hop was treated by the Paris municipal authorities, resulting in the creation of the "Paris Hip Hop" festival, which he co-founded in 2006. The same year, he programmed and coordinated the musical part of the "Rue au Grand Palais" event organized by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication. For over 15 years, Julien Cholewa has been developing his vision of the arts and urban creation within Hip Hop Citoyens, the organization behind the Paris Hip Hop festival. He develops projects and cooperations in Paris, France and abroad. With his colleagues, he organizes 14 editions of the festival, for which he is responsible for coordination and artistic direction. Paris Hip Hop became one of the leading events of its kind in Europe, with the programming of artists such as IAM, Snoop Dogg, Jonone, Nas, Damian Marley, Kongo, Wanted Posse, Paradox Sal, The Roots, Nekfeu, Sexion d'Assaut, T-Kid 170, Kery James, Franck Ocean... He took over as director and programmer of La Place in 2020, taking over the development of the project launched by the first team in 2016. New projects such as the L2P convention, Playin'Paris and Centrale Place are born of this new dynamic.
