Internationally renowned artist and artistic director, singer and flutist, composer and improviser, producer and educator, Clotilde Rullaud is a multifaceted creator who uses various arts to bring forth new poetic languages.
She released her first albums in 2007 in a duo with guitarist Hugo Lippi, and then in 2011 with the quartet In Extremis, which was ranked among the top 5 albums of the year by The Sunday Times (UK) and in the 2013 NPR Annual Jazz Critics Poll - debut album category (US). After a long tenure on the New York jazz scene, she was named among the top three voices of the year in 2022 and 2023 by Jazz Mag x Jazz News.
Her duo Madeleine & Salomon, with pianist Alexandre Saada, achieved resounding success in France and internationally with the albums A Woman’s Journey (2016), which garnered 16 awards including 6 for best album in France and the United States, and Eastern Spring (2022), praised by critics with 4T from Télérama, 4 stars from JazzWise (UK), and “Editor’s Choice” from Jazziz (US).
Clotilde is also the author, director, and composer of the XXY diptych, which explores gender injunctions. This project includes an experimental film shown at over 30 international festivals and awarded 5 prizes and nominations, as well as a choreographic and filmic concert for 5 musicians, 5 dancers, and a film.
Co-founder of Tzig’Art, she took on its artistic direction in 2011.
