Gianmarco Del Re is a British/Italian journalist. He's been chronicling the full-scale Russian invasion since its onset through the voices of Ukrainian artists for the experimental music website A Closer Listen. At the same time, he has been hosting a monthly podcast by the same name on the UK based radio Resonance FM.
Back in 2023, Gianmarco collected all 170 interviews he conducted from the first year of the invasion in "Ukrainian Field Notes", a 567-page fully illustrated book that unveils the human face of the war through the prism of sound and music.
The book was released alongside a fund-raising compilation on Odesa's label система | system featuring 89 pieces of music all made after the invasion by the musicians interviewed.
In May 2024 Gianmarco held presentations of the book "Ukrainian Field Notes" both in Kyiv and Lviv where he finally had a chance to meet the musicians he interviewed in person.
