Rooted in Greek folklore, Elektre's melodies explore urban sounds to drive a haunting, energetic and danceable live set. The Elektre project pays homage to the urban origins of rebetiko, with its trap and reggaeton accents. Born in the slums of Athens around 1920, rebetiko was a musical style created by Greek exiles from Anatolia, who sang of a bohemian, outcast life tinged with drunkenness and clandestinity.
